They should go away at this point. EV have been around long enough that they should be able to compete in the marketplace without incentives. The increase in nationwide electrification of services and the push to electrify more services is causing rising prices for electricity and straining grids. So if the government is going to subsidize the movement to electrification for various things it does not need to be in vehicles at this point. Instead subsidize and start approving nuclear power and start dumping more research dollars into nuclear power and breeder reactors.

The other thing that would be nice is perhaps to federally subsidize home-based solar installations and institute nationalized standards for home-based solar installations so you have complete and full interoperability of parts. The one thing that holds me back from solar installations is when I look at the cost it is a 20 to 30 year payback but there is no warranty that spans that entire period and there is no guarantee that the parts are interchangeable with anyone else's. Modularization and interchangeability is what's really needed for wide adoption.

Musk used to want to accelerate the transition to renewables, now he wants to burn the world so he can be marginally richer and more powerful.
